Old-fashioned people are used to the man paying for a date. 
Some men didn't want women to foot the bill for a date. 
However, this culture has changed. It is considered natural to take turns paying for dates. 
It's also customary for whomever has more money to spare to pay, regardless of whether it's the man or the woman. 
Many younger people in their 20s often prefer to pay 50-50 for their dates.

1. foot the bill 
Some men didn't want women to foot the bill for a date.
I usually foot the bill when I eat with my sister.
We couldn't decide who should foot the bill.

foot 은 아랫부분을 가리키는 단어로 계산서에서 가격이 적힌 가장 아랫부분을 의미한다. 원래 "footing the bill"은 여러 항목들을 모두 더해 최종가격을 구하는 것을 의미했지만 지금은 계산을 치르는 것을 의미하는 것으로 변형되었다.
